Texas State Representative Linda Harper Brown visited the Irving YMCA Afterschool Program at TJ Lee Elementary School on Thursday afternoon, October 23rd to get an inside peek of the YMCA after program in action.
Representative Harper-Brown was greeted by several of the representatives of the organization including Gordon Echtenkamp, Dallas YMCA’s President/CEO, Doug Fox, Irving YMCA Executive Director and Program Director Sammantha Watson. Representative Harper-Brown’s visit gave the YMCA an opportunity to showcase how the Y is building strong kids and families in the Irving community. Joining YMCA officials were TJ Lee’s Principal, Maria Elena Coronado, along with Assistant Principals, Aaron McAdams and Linda Torres-Rangel.
Representative Harper-Brown was impressed with the YMCA’s continued commitment to the mission of the organization and the scope and outreach that happens in the many communities across the Dallas area. Although not too surprised, as the Representative grew up around the Oak Cliff YMCA and was later a member of the Downtown YMCA.
During her visit, YMCA Afterschool participants sang songs and presented Representative Harper Brown a book of illustrations done by the participants in the Afterschool program.
